RCMP say a pedestrian was injured after being hit in front of Yellowknife’s École Sir John Franklin High School by a driver who officers believe was impaired.

Police said they responded to incident just before 8:45am on Wednesday along with emergency medical responders.

A female pedestrian, whose age was not given, was hit by a car according to RCMP, who said officers at the scene “formed grounds to believe the male driver of the vehicle was impaired.”

RCMP said the pedestrian was taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Their condition as of Wednesday afternoon was not clear.

The driver – whom police did not identify – was taken into custody, RCMP said, and an investigation continues.
