Fire crews were called to what appeared to be a tent fire on Yellowknife’s Niven Lake trail just before 11am on Thursday.
In radio transmissions, firefighters were heard to describe a small area of land on fire, adding they believed the fire was probably related to a tent.
Firefighters said no one was at the fire when they arrived and there was “no exposure.”

Just past 11am, firefighters said the fire was under control and had never posed a risk of spreading.
A Cabin Radio reporter at the scene could see flames burning in an area of about 25 square feet behind apartments overlooking the Niven Lake trail.
A burned-out chair and what appeared to be items of clothing were visible. Four firefighters could be seen tackling the fire with a hose.
Claire McFarlane and Sarah Pruys contributed reporting.
