Hay Days festival set to return for its 10th year

Another NWT festival has confirmed its return this year. The South Slave’s Hay Days music and art festival will celebrate its 10th anniversary from June 29 to July 3.

Events will take place at various locations across Hay River. Organizers say they are still determining exactly how the festival and events will be delivered.

“Given the current unprecedented times and length of the ongoing pandemic, organizers feel it is important, now more than ever, to bring Hay Days Festival to our community,” stated a news release announcing the festival’s revival.

From April 1, the festival’s website and social media channels will cary a tentative schedule of events, while musicians, artisans and volunteers will be able to apply for roles in the festival.

The 2020 festival was cancelled in February last year – before the Covid-19 pandemic had reached the NWT – after a number of key management roles were vacated. Organizers said time was needed to train new volunteers.

In 2019, the Rotary Club of Hay River Sunrise held a five-day festival that showcased more than 70 NWT musicians and 15 artisans.
