A construction firm is seeking to build a 90-room hotel on Yellowknife’s Old Airport Road.

Plans for a four-storey building at 326 Old Airport Road were filed with the City of Yellowknife last month. The city’s planning department states the application remains under review.

The city lists the applicant as Stanton Suites Ltd, the operator of an existing hotel on a separate stretch of the same road, nearer to Stanton Territorial Hospital.

The construction firm Nova Builders, part of the broader Nova Group of Companies that operates a hotel of its own in Yellowknife, is also listed in documents submitted to city planners. Those documents give the proposed building the name Stanton Express.

Floor plans submitted to the city include space for a restaurant.

A new hotel would replace the existing building at 326 Old Airport Road. The lot has previously served as the home of firms like industrial equipment supplier Tenaquip, now located on Utsingi Drive.

The lot was listed for sale in December 2024.
