Caroline Wawzonek, centre, appears at a public hearing in January 2023.

The NWT government says it will publish a new fiscal sustainability plan on Monday.

So far there’s no information on the plan’s contents, but the GNWT considers it significant enough to hold a press conference featuring the premier and finance minister at the legislature.

The plan has a name, too. In an advisory, the territorial government said it will be called “Restoring Balance: A Fiscal Sustainability Plan for the 20th Legislative Assembly.”

More details will be given at noon on Monday.

The GNWT published an interim budget this week designed to see the territory through to the end of June while MLAs produce a new set of priorities and mandate.

The territory is also several years into an initiative named “government renewal” that finance minister Caroline Wawzonek introduced while in Caroline Cochrane’s cabinet, closely scrutinizing the spending of each department. The territory has yet to directly attribute any major shifts in financial practice to government renewal.
