Sandra McMaster has defeated incumbent Michael St Amour to become the new mayor of Enterprise.
Already one of the NWT’s smallest communities, the South Slave hamlet is now dealing with the aftermath of a wildfire that burned the majority of its homes in August last year.
Enterprise was the community worst-hit by the territory’s most severe fire season on record.
Even the mayoral election itself was delayed from last fall. Some residents remain unable to return home.
In Tuesday’s election, 54 out of 64 eligible voters cast ballots according to official results posted to Facebook by the hamlet.
McMaster received 29 votes to St Amour’s 25.
Barbara Hart, Michael Kimble, Malcolm MacPhail and Charles Sutherland were elected to the hamlet council.
Correction: February 14, 2024 – 12:22 MT. We initially misspelled the last name of one elected councillor. The correct name is Barbara Hart, not Hunt.
