Police say a man has been charged following a reported assault at Yellowknife’s North Slave Correctional Complex earlier this year.

The initial report dates to May 28, when police were called in the mid-afternoon to “an incident between a corrections officer and an adult, male offender.”

The corrections officer was taken to hospital at the time. They did not have life-threatening injuries, police said.

Following an RCMP investigation, a 19-year-old named Jordan Charlie, from Nunavut, was charged last week with one count of assaulting a peace officer.

“The investigation is now closed. Jordan Charlie is scheduled to appear in court on August 9, 2019,” said police in a news release on Friday.

Correction: June 21, 2019 – 15:50 MT. In their initial news release, RCMP said Charlie is aged 39. In a later email, police said the man is actually aged 19. This report has been updated accordingly.
