RCMP say a weekend traffic stop near Behchokǫ̀ and the intercepting of a flight in Délı̨nę have resulted in three people facing drugs charges.
Officers who stopped a vehicle on Highway 3 heading toward Yellowknife found 217 grams of crack cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia, RCMP reported on Wednesday.
Two men in their thirties from Behchokǫ̀ face charges related to trafficking and are in custody pending a future court date, police said.
Meanwhile, a man from Fort Providence is charged with a trafficking-related offence and failing to comply with release conditions after being noticed by officers while they were at Délı̨nę’s airport to stop alcohol smuggling, RCMP said in a separate news release.
Police saw the man was present in Délı̨nę despite being under a court order to remain in Yellowknife, RCMP reported.
“This person was arrested and during a search incidental to arrest, the officers located 113 grams of crack cocaine and 13 grams of a substance suspected to be Gabapentin,” the news release stated. Separately, RCMP said some alcohol entering the community illegally was seized.
Gabapentin is ordinarily used to treat seizures and nerve pain.
Wednesday’s news releases follow a Monday RCMP report in which a Hay River 21-year-old was said to have been charged after officers found 76 grams of suspected crack cocaine in a vehicle.
