The group that organizes Yellowknife’s mud run says it’s embarking on a new three-year, $600,000 fundraising campaign after the success of its last one.
The CIBC Run for Our Lives Committee handed a cheque for just over half a million dollars to the Stanton Territorial Hospital in February.
That money went toward a state-of-the-art 3D mammography machine that began operating at the Yellowknife hospital in March. Raising the sum had taken three years, and the committee said it was “immensely grateful for the generosity and dedication of everyone involved.”
Registration for this year’s mud run opens this week, the Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation said in a Wednesday news release.
“Over the next three years, the Run for Our Lives Committee aims to raise approximately $600,000 to support the purchase of four new pieces of cancer-related equipment for the Stanton Territorial Hospital,” committee chair Tanya Kearney was quoted as saying.
The next equipment on the hospital’s wish list includes a breast ultrasound machine, two automated endoscope reprocessors (which clean and disinfect equipment used to look inside the body) and a colposcope examination chair (a colposcopy examines the cervix and vaginal wall).
This year’s mud run returns to the Yellowknife Ski Club on Saturday, September 14.
