Yellowknife’s farmers’ market is back on Tuesday evenings until September 10, running from 5:15-7:30pm at Somba K’e Civic Plaza.

The market season kicked off with a busy first night on Tuesday as people shopped, listened to music and gathered on the green.

More than 35 vendors are a part of this year’s market, providing a variety of fresh produce, prepared foods, art and more.

One of those vendors, Coombs & Co, is back for its third year at the market.

“It’s nice to see everybody coming back year after year, and chatting with everybody,” said Dan Coombs, one of company’s owners. “It’s good to catch up.”

The market’s harvest table is back, selling produce from gardeners to ensure that locally grown food can be enjoyed and minimize food waste. A waste reduction program, which consists of composting and loyalty cards, also returns.

Shannon Jennings was at the market with Bikespace, a bike collective that usually sets up shop on the deck of Makerspace YK.

Bikespace offers free services and use of tools to help people repair their bikes, while teaching people how to do simple repairs themselves.

“We came to the farmers’ market a couple of weeks last summer and that went well,” Jennings said.

Bikespace is booked again at the market next week. “I anticipate we’ll be here a lot of the summer,” Jennings added.
