Editor’s note: Following publication of this report, charges against Shaquan Francis and Donald Lafleur were stayed.
Police say two people have been charged after an early Tuesday raid in Hay River turned up cocaine, cash and “additional evidence of drug trafficking.”
RCMP did not identify the location of the incident, which residents said had taken place in the vicinity of a downtown trailer court, but did issue a news release on Wednesday naming two people accused.
Police said 30-year-old Shaquan Francis-Davis of Ontario and 35-year-old Donald Lafleur of Hay River are each charged with trafficking-related offences. Francis-Davis is also charged with assault with a weapon and pointing a firearm, as well as breaching an earlier condition that had ordered him to reside in Ontario.
“The search warrant was in support of a firearms investigation,” police stated.
“Officers recovered 24 grams of cocaine, $3,700 cash and additional evidence of drug trafficking. No firearm was recovered during the search and this aspect of the investigation remains ongoing.”
RCMP said two more men aged 31 and 57, both from Hay River, were “released for a future court date,” while a fifth person arrested at the scene was released without charge.
