It’s not too late to start your summer gardening. And if you need seeds, you’ll find an unusual – and free – source of them outside a Yellowknife healthcare facility.

In a press release this week, the NWT’s health authority said it is offering seed packs to people passing by the Łıwegǫ̀atì building (the refitted former Stanton hospital building).

The health authority said the seeds are a means of celebrating the second anniversary of the building being reopened as a centre of primary care, outpatient rehab, long-term care and a range of specialist services.

“This small gesture encourages everyone to plant seeds in recognition of two years of growth at Łıwegǫ̀atì,” the health authority stated.

“The ‘planting seeds’ theme symbolizes our ongoing journey of growth, raises awareness of our services, and reaffirms our dedication to continuous improvement.”

How long the seeds will remain available wasn’t immediately clear.

If you share a photo of yourself actually planting the seeds, you can win a prize, the health authority added. See the health authority’s news release for more details.
