The City of Yellowknife Fire Division hosted its annual open house on Saturday, giving people a chance to meet firefighters and Marshall the fire dog while exploring the fire hall and trucks.
The event included a free barbecue, fire safety demonstrations, face painting, balloon animals and a dunk tank.
Attendees were able to wander in and out of the fire hall, learn how to use a fire extinguisher, take a ride in a fire truck, and learn more about the tools and equipment that firefighters use to keep the community safe.

The open house is “all about building that relationship with the community,” said Lexie Tavares, one of Yellowknife’s firefighters, who was there on Saturday.
“We serve our community, so it’s good to have a good relationship with them.”
Tavares said she hopes the open house helps people to “feel comfortable calling us when they need us.”
“Obviously, people call us when something’s going wrong,” Tavares said. “I hope they come here, they see us in a good light, and it makes them just feel a lot safer when they do call us.”
