Police in Norman Wells say a man faces charges related to theft and weapons offences after a series of break-ins throughout the town.
In a Tuesday news release, RCMP said the same person had been reported breaking into two homes on Sunday morning.
In one instance, the suspect was said to be wearing a mask and “brandishing a firearm” inside an occupied property, police reported. In the next, they were said to have stolen valuables from an unoccupied home.
According to police, at least one incident involved a report of someone being held at gunpoint while they were robbed. No shots were reported to have been fired, police stated.
RCMP say the man, identified by police as 30-year-old Kevin Kivi, is also alleged to have broken into and stolen from a business.
Some of the stolen property from the various incidents “was later located stashed within the community,” police added.
Police said Kivi faces multiple charges related to breaking and entering, using a disguise with intent to commit and offence, mischief, theft and misuse of firearms, among others.
RCMP said the incidents remain under investigation.
Correction: June 25, 2024 – 15:14 MT. This report initially stated Kivi faces 14 charges, based on a list supplied by RCMP. In fact, a justice of the peace docket for Tuesday suggests he is charged a total of 19 times, as some of the charges involve multiple counts under the same heading.
