RCMP say a 30-year-old is in custody after residents in Tuktoyaktuk reported an “active shooter” in the Arctic coastal community on the morning of Canada Day.

Police said they had used “continuous updates from community members” to locate the man and arrest him.

He is alleged to have fired a shotgun at vehicles parked in a residential area, RCMP stated in a Tuesday news release.

According to police, no injuries were reported.

The man is charged with multiple firearms offences and mischief. Police said he is due in court at a later date.
