Wildlife officers are continuing patrols after multiple wolves were seen on a Yellowknife-area trail where a resident was bitten by one of the animals a week ago.

On Sunday last week, a resident walking with their dog on the Ranney Hill Trail reported being “nipped” by a wolf, in the words of the Department of Environment and Climate Change.

One wolf “displaying unusual behaviour” was subsequently killed by wildlife officers in the Ranney Hill area, the CBC reported earlier this week. However, one other wolf was also seen at the same time.

On Friday, ECC said its officers were still “working to determine” if the wolf that was killed was the wolf involved in the September 8 incident.

“Officers continue to patrol the public use areas on the Ingraham Trail. ECC asks the public to continue to be cautious of wolves on the trails and public recreational sites surrounding the Vee Lake area,” a spokesperson for the department stated.

There are wolf safety tips on the GNWT’s website. If you see one in the Yellowknife area, the department asks that you report it by calling 867-446-2073.
