A fire caused significant damage at a townhome within Yellowknife’s Borealis Housing Co-op overnight between Friday and Saturday.

The co-op is a a 50-unit collection of townhomes off Finlayson Drive near its intersection with Kam Lake Road.

An end unit in a townhome row within the co-op showed major fire damage to the rear of its ground floor on Saturday morning.

Footage sent to Cabin Radio by nearby residents showed the building well alight earlier. However, neighbouring townhomes appeared undamaged.

The cause of the fire is unclear.

An official from the Office of the Fire Marshal, which investigates fires in the NWT, was at the scene on Saturday morning. They said they could not comment.

After this article was first published, the City of Yellowknife said it had been alerted to the fire at 6:30am on Saturday. A crew of 10 firefighters responded, requiring two and a half hours at the scene.

Nobody was hurt, the city said, confirming the fire was contained within one unit.
