The Northern Journalism Training Initiative is offering a four-week community journalism training program in Hay River this spring.
From March 10 to April 4, successful applicants aged 18 or over will be offered a program “designed to empower Indigenous and northern people to develop cutting-edge multimedia storytelling skills, dive into the dynamic world of storytelling and the journalism industry, and open doors to exciting new opportunities for participants.”
NJTI said the program will feature expert training from seasoned professionals and a “media kit with professional gear to keep.”
“There’s still a gap in formal opportunities in the North to gain the skills needed to lead in the media industry,” said Kaila Jefferd-Moore, NJTI’s project director.
“By providing hands-on, professional training in multimedia storytelling, we’re empowering the next generation of storytellers to not only continue this legacy but to push it further, ensuring the North’s story is told by those who truly understand it.”
Applications must be received by January 3. You need to be a current NWT resident to be considered.
