If you’re Indigenous or from a minority in the NWT, apply to join Cabin Radio in a paid role this summer and get experience in news and broadcasting.

Our multimedia production fellowship, funded by Journalists for Human Rights, provides training and experience in radio broadcasting, video production and written journalism.

This is a chance to learn more about what we do and help us tell stories that reflect you and your community. Bring some ideas with you!

We first ran this program in 2025. Of the four candidates we’ve hired to date, one now has a full-time on-air role at Cabin Radio, one is at journalism school in BC and one now works at CBC North.

Applications are open again. We’re looking for a candidate to work with us from June 2 until August 29, 2026, working six hours a day, Tuesday to Saturday each week.

There is the possibility of renewal beyond that point subject to funding. The schedule and dates can be flexible to fit around existing work or school commitments.

You’ll be working with us at our Yellowknife studios. Applicants from other Northwest Territories communities are welcome. If successful, an applicant from outside Yellowknife will be entitled to a $1,000 housing bursary to assist with accommodation costs. You’ll be earning a salary of $27.50 an hour.

Note: We’re also hiring a three-month broadcast intern this summer. That role is open to anyone aged 30 or under and we’re filling that role through a separate process here.

As a requirement of the Journalists for Human Rights funding, applicants must be a member of a First Nations, Métis or Inuit community or a Black or other racialized community.

There is no age limit for this role. For example, applications are welcome from high school students aged 15 and above and from university students (including those at school outside the territory if able to demonstrate they are ordinarily resident in the NWT).

To apply, fill out the form below by 11pm MT on April 26, 2026. We will contact shortlisted candidates for interview shortly after the closing date.
