The City of Yellowknife is holding an electric vehicle fleet management conference for organizations with light-duty vehicle fleets and passenger cars.
In a news release, the city said the conference will answer questions like whether electric vehicles are reliable in the North, infrastructure that is needed and how to balance operational needs and budgets.
The conference will feature panel discussions, question and answer sessions and a visit to an electric vehicle charging station.
“Participants will hear directly from organizations already operating [electric vehicle] fleets in northern conditions, gaining practical insights into vehicle selection, charging, winter operation, maintenance, and costs,” the city said.
The city encourages representatives from municipal, territorial and Indigenous governments; utility providers; educational institutions; health care providers; and non-profit organizations to register for the conference on their website. Registration is open until September 21, and the city asks for a limit of three people per organization because of space limitations.

The city said the conference is hosted in partnership with Arctic Energy Alliance, the GNWT, Naka Power Utilities, Yellowknife Motors and the Yellowknife Car Share Co-op – which opened a new car share location in front of Arctic Energy Alliance’s Yellowknife office or 5102 51 Street. It has financial support from the federal government’s Education and Awareness Project Funding.
The conference is set to take place on October 6 from 8:30-12:30 at the Explorer Hotel. It will follow the city’s electric vehicle symposium on September 12.
