If you intend flying soon, Yellowknife Airport hopes the seat of your pants enjoys the experience.
The airport said on Thursday it had added new seats to the area of its terminal between the Javaroma and Quiznos cafés, where some fairly tired wooden chairs had previously plied their trade.

That part of the airport is heavily used. Many local flights within the NWT rely on the adjacent gates, which are separate from the two gates that serve destinations beyond the territory.
The delays that can come with northern travel, plus the presence of nearby food, make these chairs a prime location.
In a press release, the airport said the seats offered “the perfect spot to sit back and recharge,” which perhaps overlooked certain Caribbean beaches or Nahanni campsites, but nonetheless spoke to the quality of the new chairs.
According to the airport, the furniture was paid for through a fund established by the NWT government eight years ago to allow this kind of gradual improvement to the terminal’s facilities.
A broader airport master plan anticipates that a whole new terminal will eventually be needed. The existing terminal is nearly 60 years old.
