A bright blue food truck is now up and running outside downtown Yellowknife’s Greenstone building.

Palak Sharma, owner of The Happy Tummy, says the truck was customized in Calgary before making its way to Yellowknife.

While obtaining the necessary permits, sourcing inventory, and setting up the food truck was challenging, Sharma said she was able to accomplish it with her husband’s support.

Sharma has no formal culinary training, though she passionately pursues cooking, often turning to social media to explore and learn new recipes.

“Seeing the lack of food trucks in Yellowknife motivated me,” she told Cabin Radio.

“People here are so kind and supportive. I want to keep serving delicious food and build strong connections with the community.”

The food truck will be open daily from 11:30am to 4pm and again from 6:30pm to 10pm (you can’t park on the street in question between 4pm and 6:30pm). Timings may fluctuate in the initial week, she said.

Poutine, funky fries, street-style sandwiches, wings, tornado potatoes and drinks are all on the menu.

The Happy Tummy is Sharma’s first business venture.

“To all women,” she said, “if your heart tells you to do something, go for it. Follow your passion and never give up.”
