Twenty francophone youth are heading to Laval, Quebec, to represent the NWT in Les Jeux de la Francophonie Canadienne 2025, or the Canadian Francophone Games.

The games, taking place from July 15-19, feature a full schedule of events, including a wide variety of competitions and entertainment all focused around Canada’s Francophone culture.

The website for the games describes the event as “among the largest gatherings of Canada’s French-speaking youth.”

“In addition to encouraging hundreds of young people to exercise their talents in one of three sectors (art, leadership and sport), the games showcase cultural pride, self-confidence and leadership abilities in a friendly, competitive setting,” the website states.

Every province and territory has a team competing at this year’s games.

Mila Benoit, executive director of Association franco-ténoise du Sud et de l’Ouest, said the NWT team would be gathering for the first time on Sunday before travelling to Quebec.

Benoit said this will be her first time attending the games.

She said she put together a team of experienced coaches to assist the youth competitors in events such as survival camp, public speaking, culinary arts, track and field, badminton and beach volleyball.
