The president of the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre says the organization is starting the search for a new executive and artistic director.

Lynn Canney said she could not discuss details about the departure of Marie Coderre from the role, but told Cabin Radio she and other board members “foresee posting an advertisement for an executive and artistic director on Monday afternoon.”

Canney confirmed the position is now vacant. Coderre, reached on Friday afternoon, said she would have more to say at a later date.

According to NACC’s website, Coderre had been its executive and artistic director since September 2012, leading the organization through its 40th-anniversary celebrations and, before that, through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

NACC is one of the primary artistic and cultural venues and providers in the NWT, hosting months-long seasons of diverse shows on its Yellowknife stage alongside a series of touring performances and other events.

“NACC is in the process of finalizing our 2025-26 season,” Canney stated in a text message, “much of which will be spent in celebration of more than a decade of outstanding artistic programming by outgoing executive and artistic director Marie Coderre.”
