The Yellowknife event billed as the world’s northernmost gaming and pop-culture convention, Ptarmicon, takes place this weekend.
This year, a highlight is The Gloaming, a “Ptarmicon after dark” concert featuring local punk-rock bands Gutter King, SIWS and Pronoia.
Doors for The Gloaming, a partnership with Steadily Deadly Fest and Cabin Radio, open on Saturday at 7pm with music starting at 8pm. Advance tickets are available via the Eventbrite website for $30. Tickets on the door cost $35.
The weekend-long convention’s daytime sessions feature board games, Magic: The Gathering tournaments and video game events, as well as role-playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons, and Call of Cthulhu.
Fantasy author Kaelyn Hamm is coming from Edmonton to talk about getting published, creating fantasy worlds, and other aspects of becoming and being an author. Hamm’s workshops run each day.
Around 15 vendors will be in attendance, selling the likes of 3D-printed items, beadwork, pottery and other art forms as well as comic books and pop culture trinkets.
Other workshops include making plushies and customizing ball-jointed dolls.
Ptarmicon takes place at the multiplex’s Ed Jeske Arena. Daytime admission is $10 per day. Doors open at 10:30am on both Saturday and Sunday, closing at 5pm on Saturday and 4pm on Sunday.
