A business arm of the Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation is forming a joint venture with global energy services firm Kent.
The joint venture, Oosita-Kent Field Services, will provide “telecommunications and related field maintenance services to support the operations and maintenance of customers’ systems,” the two stated in a Monday news release.
They said the work would provide jobs and “business opportunities” for members of the Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation.
Kent says it has about 13,000 employees worldwide, delivering engineering and project management services mostly to clients in oil, gas, renewables and other parts of the energy sector.
The Oosita-Kent agreement has an initial five-year term.

“We are investing in the future of our people and ensuring that our Nation plays a leading role in shaping the industries that operate on our traditional lands,” President Kendrick Cardinal of the Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation was quoted as saying.
