The Canadian Coast Guard has released a photo of the Thamesborg container ship aground in the Northwest Passage’s Franklin Strait.
The image was published as the coast guard added the stricken vessel to its live operations page, which carries regular updates about ongoing issues to which the federal agency is assigned.
There was otherwise little change to the vessel’s condition on Tuesday as salvage teams work their way to the scene and draw up plans to refloat the ship.
Thamesborg was carrying carbon blocks, or anodes, from China to Quebec when it hit an apparent shoal northwest of the Tasmania Islands in the strait, off mainland Nunavut, on Saturday.
None of the 16 crew members on board were hurt and no cargo or fuel reached the surrounding environment, the coast guard and vessel owner, Dutch shipping firm Wagenborg, have said.
A remotely operated vehicle was used to complete an inspection of Thamesborg’s hull on Monday. Those results are being analyzed, the coast guard said in its latest update.
The vessel has flooded in multiple ballast tanks but not its fuel tanks or cargo hold.
