The Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency is splitting just over $1.3 million in funding between a territory-wide tourism project and specific work on museums in Yellowknife and Hay River.
The funding sums were included in a federal news release on Friday, though some of the information had previously been made public.
The Hay River Museum Society is receiving $300,000 to help repair, relocate, and reopen the Hay River Heritage Centre following flood damage, as Cabin Radio reported in August.
Friday’s announcement also stated the Yellowknife Historical Museum will receive up to $111,000 to help pay for “multilingual audio guides, enhancing the café and gift shop, upgrading systems and advancing strategic planning.”
The bulk of the money announced on Friday is an award of up to $900,000 to NWT Tourism, the territory’s tourism industry body.
That money will go toward a project worth $2 million in all that supports “recovery and growth in the NWT tourism industry through research and strategy development, marketing, training and support for businesses, and modernizing web and digital platforms.”
