Police in the NWT say they’ll join Operation Impact, a nationwide “public awareness and enforcement campaign,” over the 2025 Thanksgiving weekend.

The operation is an annual event that focuses on “impaired driving, aggressive and distracted driving as well the use of seatbelts and child car seats.”

A larger police presence on NWT roads with more frequent check stops began on Friday and will continue through Monday next week.

“Police will also be on the lookout for motor vehicle equipment violations that pose hazards,” RCMP stated.

“Motorists are reminded that any traffic stop can involve mandatory alcohol screening, in which drivers will be required to provide a breath sample to police.”
