Walk-in clinics for the flu and Covid-19 vaccine open in Yellowknife later in October, the NWT’s health authority confirmed in a schedule issued late last week.

A seniors’ clinic open to anyone aged 65 or older will take place at the Baker Community Centre from 10am-3pm on Friday, October 24.

A family clinic takes place in the multiplex’s DND gym from 9am-1pm on Saturday, October 25, open to families with at least one child aged five and under. The Yellowknife Playgroup Association will provide toys, activities, snacks and refreshments, the health authority said.

Anyone can get their shot at the Yellowknife Co-op from 10am till 2pm on Sunday, October 26 or at community walk-in clinics running in the lower level of Centre Square Mall on these dates:

October 28-30: 9am-6pm
October 31: 9am-5pm
November 1: 10am-4pm
November 4-7: 9am-6pm
November 8: 10am-4pm

More information is available on the health authority’s website, including how to get your shot in other NWT communities.

Earlier this month, the Department of Health and Social Services said flu cases were low so far but anticipated to start increasing in the coming weeks.

Last year, just under 20 percent of eligible NWT residents got their flu shot – lower than the average uptake from the past five years.

“A collective effort is needed to protect one another,” the department stated.

“Based on last year’s data, more flu hospitalizations occurred in children under five and adults 65-plus in NWT, making immunizations for these groups particularly important.”
