The YWCA NWT is looking for sponsors for its annual holiday sponsorship program.
Through the program, sponsors provide presents and grocery gift cards to people and families in need.
“We believe that everyone and every family deserves something special over the holiday season,” stated Hawa Dumbuya-Sesay, executive director of YWCA NWT.
“Community support for the sponsorship program has been incredible over the past few years and we are encouraging residents, businesses and workplaces to help brighten the holiday season for local women and families in our housing and shelter programs by sponsoring a local family.”
This year, YWCA NWT said there are nearly 140 children and 80 families and individuals living in transitional housing, emergency housing and family violence shelters for whom the organization is hoping to find sponsors.

YWCA NWT asked people and businesses interested in being a sponsor to get in touch by email by December 8 indicating the size of family they want to sponsor.
YWCA NWT outlines recommended costs to sponsor various family sizes on its website.
The organization said it is also looking for sponsors to stuff stockings for women and children staying at the Alison McAteer House family violence shelter during the holiday season, and for youth in leadership programs.
