The Still Dark Festival and Yellowknife Artist-Run Community Centre, or YK ARCC, are collaborating on a new project that aims to “strengthen the creative community.”
The organizations are calling for artists in the Yellowknife area to submit proposals for an art installation that will be displayed during the upcoming music festival early next year.
They have dubbed the collaborative project Still D’ARCC.
“The Still Dark Festival has been inspired by the northern tradition of caring for one another during our long, harsh winters,” a press release stated.
“By working together – artists, venues and community – we aim to create a festival space that brings people together for warmth and celebration in the coldest part of the year.”
The organizations encouraged a wide variety of artists to apply, saying artwork can include original photography, painting, drawing, illustration, sewing, beadwork and other media.
“Ultimately the artwork will comprise a single large installation piece featured inside or outside of one of the festival’s venues and be guided by the three themes of community, celebration and connection,” the press release added.
The inaugural Still Dark Festival took place at multiple downtown Yellowknife venues in January and February 2025. It featured musical artists from across the NWT and elsewhere in Canada.
The second edition is set to take place from February 5-8, 2026, with the lineup due to be revealed in announcements throughout November and December.
YK ARCC is a non-profit organization that supports and exhibits art in the city.
The deadline to submit a design for the Still D’ARCC art installation is November 15. Application details are available on the festival’s website.
