Yellowknife duo Tammy Roberts and Dave Hurley will be inducted into the Order of the NWT at a December 2025 ceremony, the territory’s legislature says.

The order, established in 2013, is the territory’s highest honour. It recognizes “outstanding contributions or achievements” by current or former NWT residents.

A five-person advisory council reviews nominations each year.

In a news release, the legislature said Roberts had “dedicated her heart and home to children and youth in foster care” since moving from northern Manitoba to Yellowknife in 1993.

The legislature said she had “made significant contributions to the wellbeing of children and youth through the Foster Family Coalition of the NWT and Home Base Yellowknife.”

Hurley, who moved from Newfoundland to the NWT in the 1970s, is being recognized for his contributions to volunteer services, the news release stated.

The legislature said he “has been instrumental in shaping the Sport North organization, which has benefited youth and athletes across the North by promoting and developing sport programs.”

Hurley is also recognized “for his commitment to help alleviate poverty by forming the Habitat for Humanity chapter of the NWT, which has helped house families across the NWT.”

An induction ceremony will be held at the Legislative Assembly from 11am on December 5.
