The NWT’s health authority says medical travel patients travelling between Inuvik’s airport and the town hospital can now make the journey by scheduled bus.

The hospital and airport are about 10 km apart.

The new bus service operates Monday to Friday and is managed by staff at the hospital, where a facility on the second floor forms a boarding home for people on medical travel.

In a news release, the health authority said its aim is to provide “reliable, predictable transportation.”

“By removing the need for client reliance on smaller-capacity vehicles, the new service also enhances safety, improves coordination for groups of travellers, and supports better planning for both clients and staff,” the authority stated.
