The NWT government says technicians will arrive in Wrigley this coming week to figure out what has gone wrong with the Dehcho community’s water treatment plant.
A boil-water advisory was issued for Wrigley on Wednesday after what the GNWT called a “critical failure” in the treatment process.
Responding to questions from Cabin Radio, the NWT’s Department of Health and Social Services said that equipment failure is understood to have occurred on New Year’s Day.
“Environmental Health was notified on January 13,” the department stated by email on Thursday.
“Technical experts will be in the community next week to assess the extent of the failure and support repairs.”
The department said it could not confirm what, exactly, had gone wrong.
“It is believed to be mechanical or electrical in nature. As a result, the water treatment plant cannot be operated as intended,” the department stated.
“The community is currently bypassing the system and manually chlorinating the water before distributing.”
