Police in Hay River say a 15-year-old faces charges after a social media post with a “threatening caption relating to an upcoming school sporting event” triggered an investigation.
In a Friday news release, RCMP said the post was reported to them on Thursday and officers later seized five guns and an airgun from the suspect’s home.
The teenager, described by police as a student at Diamond Jenness Secondary School, cannot be legally named because of their age.
“The youth was arrested and later released to appear in court to answer to uttering threats and firearms related charges,” RCMP stated.
“The investigation remains ongoing at this time.”
