The Giant Mine remediation team will hold an open house and online public forum on Tuesday to discuss work at the site.

The $4-billion federally led project to clean up the toxic site of a former Yellowknife gold mine is becoming a bedrock of the local economy.

Earlier this week, Giant was cited as one of the main reasons why public spending on big projects in the NWT is expected to grow significantly this year.

On March 3, the project team will hold an open house at the Giant Mine Oversight Board’s office on 50 Avenue from 10am until 3pm.

Staff will be available to answer questions about the project. Virtual reality headsets will be available to take a tour of elements of the site.

From 7-9pm the same evening, an online public forum will take place. Officials say they’ll touch on work completed to date and coming up, a timeline of activities at the nearby boat launch and marina, and “socio-economic achievements.”
