Curler Reese Wainman and futsal player Kingston Torindo will lead Team NT into the opening ceremony of the 2026 Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse.

Wainman, who is Gwich’in and Inuvialuit, and Torindo will each take part as flagbearers for the Northwest Territories during Sunday evening’s ceremony through downtown Whitehorse.

“I have had the pleasure of coaching Kingston for three games. He has grown amazingly as an athlete. He has done everything for the team,” said Roger Vail, a member of Team NT’s futsal coaching staff.

“She is the leader of the team,” said curling coach Nick Saturnino of Wainman, who has three ulus to her name and is also at her third Arctic Winter Games.

“I’m excited to represent the NWT and show everyone what we can do,” said Torindo, from Yellowknife.
