After nearly two months, a boil-water advisory has been lifted for Wekweètì.
The community was placed under the advisory on January 16, after a lengthy power outage froze equipment at its water treatment plant.
In a press release on Thursday afternoon, the NWT’s chief environmental officer said the advisory was being lifted as the Community Government of Wekweètì and the territorial government were able to resolve the issue and the water treatment plant was functioning normally.
No illnesses associated with drinking water have been reported in the community, according to the NWT government.
The Department of Health and Social Services recommended that residents and businesses in Wekweètì flush their water supply by:
- running all cold water faucets and drinking fountains for one minute before use;
- flushing and cleaning all water-using equipment such as soda fountains, coffee makers and ice machines for at least one minute;
- changing all point-of-use-filters;
- running water softeners through a regeneration cycle;
- draining and refilling hot water heaters; and
- draining and cleaning water-holding tanks.
