Groups that raise awareness of tuberculosis and multiple myeloma say they’ll light up the NWT legislature this coming week.
In a news release, advocacy group Results Canada said the legislature will be illuminated in red on Tuesday, March 24 for World Tuberculosis Day.
“Canada and countries around the world are cutting their global health budgets and TB rates are rising,” the group stated.
“Canadians are not immune. As we’ve seen with recent outbreaks in Nunavik, Labrador and Edmonton’s inner city, infectious diseases do not respect borders,” Results Canada executive director Taryn Russell was quoted as saying. “The solution is to work together to protect our future, not turn a blind eye.”
In a separate news release, a northern support group associated with the International Myeloma Foundation said the legislative dome will stay red on March 25 and 26 for Multiple Myeloma Action Month.
Multiple myeloma is an incurable form of blood cancer.
“We are honouring those affected and highlighting the need for support, research and education,” the group stated.
