Yellowknife student Leah McShane is among 36 people newly inducted into a four-year program of education supports said to be valued at more than $100,000.
Sir John Franklin High School announced on Facebook that McShane has been named a Loran Scholar.
The Loran Scholars Foundation calls the program “leadership enrichment” that includes “diverse opportunities for experiential learning, financial support throughout undergraduate studies, and a network of values-driven peers and mentors.”
The program tends to accept one to two Yellowknife residents each year. Current scholars from the city include McShane, Audrey Debogorski, Stella Fairman and Kira Young.
McShane’s school said she had received the award for her “character, commitment to service in the community, and leadership potential.”
