Rewatch the live feed from a public hearing in Whatì as Fortune Minerals applied for a renewed type A water licence at its Nico mine project near the community.
For background information about the project and this hearing, read our coverage that explains what the hearing is for and why it’s happening now.
A new water licence does not guarantee the mine will be built, but helps pave the way for that to happen.
Here’s the full agenda for the hearing, hosted by regulator the Wek’èezhìi Land and Water Board. The hearing began on Tuesday and Wednesday was its second and final day.
Fortune presented about its plans on Tuesday morning, then Indigenous, territorial and federal government representatives began asking questions and presenting their own feedback.
The public hearing was held at the Johnny Nitsiza Community Centre in Whatì from 9am-5pm each day.
