Yellowknife RCMP say they have charged a 70-year-old man with illegal weapons offences after 21 long guns and two handguns were found at a home in the city.

In a Friday news release, police characterized the investigation as being drugs-related and said “cash and other paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking activity” were also found.

RCMP said a police dog unit was involved in a June 4 search of the property on Hordal Road. Ten people inside the home were taken into custody, RCMP said, though eight were later released without charges.

A 57-year-old man, whom RCMP did not name, had an active warrant for his arrest and was released to appear in court at a later date, police said.

The 70-year-old, named by RCMP as Lennard Plantz, was charged with knowingly possessing unauthorized and prohibited firearms, and possessing a restricted firearm with ammunition without a licence.
