Parades and a range of other events are being lined up across the Northwest Territories in June, which is Pride month.
Here’s our guide to some of this month’s highlights in the NWT. Beyond the events listed below, the Northern Mosaic Network has a range of programming taking place throughout the month.

Inuvik Pride Parade
Where and when: Meet at Ingamo Hall, Inuvik at 5:30pm on Wednesday, June 10.
This year’s Inuvik Pride Parade and barbecue are hosted by East Three Secondary School.
The barbecue and a community art project will be available at the school following the parade.

Pride Golf
Where and when: Yellowknife Golf Club on Friday, June 12.
“Everyone’s favourite golf tournament is just around the corner,” organizers wrote online.

Frank Gruben Pride Festival
Where and when: Various venues in Fort Smith, June 12-14.
Frank Gruben, an Aklavik 2SLGBTQ+ community member, went missing in Fort Smith in May 2023.
Organizers of Fort Smith’s Frank Gruben Pride Festival say the event “honours Frank’s story by continuing advocacy for 2SLGBTQ+ visibility & calling for justice for Canada’s Missing Murdered Indigenous Women, Children & 2-Spirit People.”

Yellowknife Pride Ball Hockey Tournament
Where and when: Mildred Hall School basketball courts from 11:30am on Saturday, June 13.
Organizers say they want to “spread some sporty and queer joy and make a space for everyone to come together” with this tournament.
“This event is for anyone who identifies anywhere along the sexuality or gender continuum. In simple terms, queers and their allies,” organizers state. “And to keep up with that inclusion, this is a skill inclusive tournament.”
Hockey gloves required, helmet and shin/knee protection strongly recommended. Organizers say a “no salty vibes” policy is in effect. Learn more here.
Inuvik Family-Friendly Pride Party
Where and when: Inuvik Community Greenhouse, 1-4pm on Saturday, June 13.
Organizers say this all-ages party involves face painting, snacks, a scavenger hunt and trivia.

Yellowknife Pride Parade
Where and when: Somba K’e Park, 12-4pm on Sunday, June 14.
A free barbecue, vendors, music and activities for kids will fill Somba K’e Park from 12:30pm on June 14 at the conclusion of the parade.

Pride Lunch and Learn
Where and when: 12-1pm on June 15 and June 23, hosted online.
The June 15 session looks at using art to express yourself and as a tool for engaging in advocacy. The June 23 session discusses “what self-care and community are and can look like.”
