Yellowknife’s Wood Fired Pizzeria building damaged in overnight fire

Yellowknife Fire Division says it responded to a ‘significant’ structure fire at Yellowknife’s Wood Fired Pizzeria and surrounding buildings in the early hours of Thursday morning.

In a Thursday afternoon update, the City of Yellowknife said its fire hall received a call about the fire on 49 Street just before 4am.

When fire crews arrived at the scene, the city said, the fire had already spread to neighbouring structures beside and behind Wood Fired Pizzeria.

When Cabin Radio visited the scene before 7am, a home to the left of the pizzeria and a structure behind it also appeared to have fire damage.

Nearby residents were temporarily evacuated because of the fire but there were no reported injuries or casualties, the city said.

The city said the fire was declared under control just before 6am and crews were there until 9:35am.

City Hall’s Thursday afternoon update stated the cause of the fire remains under investigation and RCMP are now in control of the scene.

The pizzeria opened in 2024. Its owners could not be reached on Thursday.

“The Yellowknife Fire Division reminds residents to regularly test smoke alarms and ensure they are in proper working order,” the City of Yellowknife said.

“Working smoke alarms provide critical early warnings in the event of a fire and can significantly improve life safety outcomes.”
