For 50 years, Rocky’s Plumbing & Heating has helped keep homes and businesses warm in Inuvik and the Beaufort Delta. The family-run company is marking the milestone by inviting the community to celebrate.
The company will host a free community celebration on Sunday, July 19 at Inuvik’s Chief Jim Koe Park. The event will feature a barbecue, door prizes, merchandise, live music and family-friendly activities, including water games with the Inuvik Fire Department.
CEO Evan Lemieux, who runs the business alongside his brother and chief operating officer, Lucas Lemieux, said the celebration is meant to thank the community for supporting the company since it was founded in 1976.
“It’s not about us,” Lemieux said. “We’re going to be behind the barbecue because we want to give back to the community and serve them as a thank you.”
As a third-generation family business, Lemieux said Rocky’s has focused on putting the community first. In a northern community where reliable heating is essential, he said, the company has built its reputation on responding when people need help, regardless of their circumstances.
“If there’s an Elder in the community who can’t afford to have somebody come help them with their heat, we still respond because they need heat,” he told Cabin Radio. “That’s how we’ve always operated.”
Lemieux said the company has tried to earn and maintain trust by consistently showing up for customers, especially during emergencies when reliable plumbing and heating services are critical. He said the company’s longevity reflects the strong relationships it has built.
He called reaching the 50-year mark an honour and a responsibility as he and his brother continue a business started by their grandfather and carried on by their father.
“We don’t take it lightly,” he said.
Everyone is welcome to attend Sunday’s celebration, Lemieux added. “Don’t be shy. Come say hi.”
