A celebration of life for Patrick Scott will take place in Yellowknife on Thursday, July 23, his family says.
Patrick passed away aged 77 on July 15. Relatives and Indigenous leaders remembered him as a man dedicated to his family who became a pillar of advocacy for northern Indigenous rights.
“He devoted his life to building a stronger future and believed in the importance of Indigenous self government and the rights of our people,” the Tłı̨chǫ Government said of him. He did “everything that he could” to advance self-government negotiations, Dehcho First Nations Grand Chief Herb Norwegian said.
Patrick’s celebration of life will be held in the gymnasium of Yellowknife’s St Patrick High School.
A closed casket visitation begins at 1pm on July 23. A celebration of life service starts at 2pm and is followed by burial at the Yellowknife Cemetery.
A potluck feast and reception, also in the gymnasium, begins at 6pm.
“Our family is grateful for the many offers of support and warmly welcomes contributions to the potluck as we gather to celebrate his life,” relatives stated.
“In lieu of flowers, donations to Inclusion NWT in Patrick’s memory are gratefully appreciated.”
