RCMP changing vehicles to black-and-white colour scheme

RCMP vehicles will be rebranded across the country in what the force says is the first major change in design since 1994.

The Northwest Territories relies on a network of RCMP detachments, headquartered in Yellowknife, for policing.

In a Monday news release, RCMP nationally said the current all-white look of its vehicles will be dropped in favour of white doors on a black base.

“The redesign improves visibility and supports a modern look, ensuring our vehicles remain clearly recognizable as police in every community we serve across the country,” RCMP stated.

“The black and white colour scheme draws inspiration from earlier RCMP police vehicle designs, connecting the modern fleet to the organization’s long history of serving Canadians as the national police force.”

The new look will begin appearing later this summer, RCMP stated, adding that provinces, territories, and municipalities “will have the option to include local identifiers based on regional needs.”

“Vehicles will roll out gradually as older units are replaced once they reach fleet criteria for replacement, ensuring a cost-effective approach and uninterrupted policing services,” RCMP stated. “During this transition, both the existing and new look vehicles will operate side-by-side.”
