A new website for Yellowknife Airport offers new-look arrival and departure information – and promises live updates on security line wait times.
A dedicated airport website, flyyzf.ca, appeared online this week (as did a francophone equivalent). YZF is Yellowknife’s three-letter airport code.
Previously, information about the territorial capital’s airport – including arrivals and departures – was found on the Department of Infrastructure’s website. The department oversees the airport’s management and a new website had been on its to-do list for years.

The new site more clearly sets out the expected arrival and departure times of flights, based on information provided by airlines, and also provides an estimated wait time at security.

That estimate will come from a system named BlipTrack, the website states.
BlipTrack uses anonymized signals from people’s phones to measure their progress between strategically placed sensors, allowing software to estimate how quickly a line is moving.
“By tracking movement patterns, the system provides real-time estimates of how long it takes passengers to pass through security,” the airport’s new website states, while acknowledging that it isn’t precise and the wait time shown isn’t a guarantee.
“Keep in mind that these estimates are subject to change, and actual wait times may vary. Always allow extra time when traveling to ensure you reach your gate without unnecessary stress,” the website adds.
