NWTRPA offering equipment to help communities combat smoke

The NWT Recreation and Parks Association is urging communities to apply for equipment through a program designed to help create “safer and more comfortable indoor spaces during periods of poor air quality and extreme heat.”

The project – called Community Cleaner, Cooler Air Space – provides equipment to cool, filter and monitor the air at no cost.

“The equipment can be used to establish a designated cleaner, cooler air space where residents can seek relief when outdoor air conditions are unsafe or uncomfortable,” NWTRPA stated in a Tuesday news release.

To get the equipment, communities need to “identify an appropriate space within the community, ideally a recreation space” of up to 1,500 cubic metres in volume. That space must have internet access to support the air quality monitor.
